MENDHAR, Sept 13: A middle aged woman and mother of four children, died under mysterious circumstances after being tortured by her brother- in-law (Devar) at Gohlad in tehsil Mendhar last evening.
The deceased has been identified as Nahid Akhtar, wife of CRPF personnel Farooq Ahmed, presently posted at Bantalab, Jammu CRPF headquarters. The woman was allegedly beaten up by her brother-in-law (Devar), Javed Ahmed, SPO, presently attached with Mendhar Police Station, over some domestic issue last evening. The woman was removed to Mendhar hospital with injuries. The medicos said that she was also under the influence of some poisonous stuff.
The doctors at Mendhar hospital provided preliminary treatment and then referred her to Govt Medical College hospital, Jammu but she died on the way during mid night. Later her body was removed to Mendhar hospital. Today a medical Board headed by BMO Dr Parvez Ahmed Khan conducted the postmortem and later handed over the body to the family. Later, parents and brothers of the woman also reached and lodged an FIR with the police and demanded arrest of the SPO and registration of murder case. The police is said to have started investigation into the case under Section 174 CrPC. It said that postmortem report is yet awaited and after it is received, the action will be taken certainly if evidence went against the SPO. Parents took the body of the woman to their village at Ari and performed the burial.
