RAJOURI, Apr 20: Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri, Prof Javed Musarrat, has claimed that total peace has returned to the Campus after last Sunday’s incident.
In press statement, Prof Musarrat has said that on the intervening night of April 17, there was a minor scuffle between two students of B.Tech. The University promptly addressed the problem and settled the issue between the students amicably. The students attended their classes on Monday, when classes started after a brief spell of holidays.
Suddenly, some students along with some outsiders entered the University Campus discreetly and without any provocation, indulged in scuffle with some students, leading to vandalism and damage to property in the Campus. Prof Musarrat claimed that he was personally monitoring the situation and directed for maximum restraint in dealing with the students.
The district administration including the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP reached for the on-spot assessment and to take care of the law and order situation. He along with other senior staff members interacted with the students and gave a patient hearing to them. The students were assured that justice will be done and those involved in acts of violence and vandalism shall be dealt as per law of the land. The students also assured full support to the University authorities to restore academics in the Campus.
Prof Musarrat further said that a high level fact-finding committee has been constituted comprising of five senior members namely Prof GH Dar, Dean, School of Biosciences & Biotechnology (Chairman), Mohammad Ishaq I/C Controller of Examinations, Dr Shams Kamal, HoD Arabic, Majid Bashir Malik, Assistant Professor Computer Science & Mubasher Malik, HoD ITE. The Committee has been directed to submit comprehensive report within a period of three days.
The Vice Chancellor said that peace and harmony has been restored on the Campus. He also appealed to the civil society and parents to support in the endeavor of providing quality education in this remote region, so that precious academic time of the students is not put to loss.
