Recent unrest in the Valley after the killing of dreaded terrorist Burhan Wani has caused tremendous loss to the tourism sector with serious socio economic implications. Regular strikes made life of a common man miserable besides affecting the flow of tourists and thus causing a great loss to the economy of the State. Tourism sector in J&K is badly hit by such disturbances. A congenial and peaceful atmosphere is must for the promotion of tourism. In recent past, there were reports of stone pelting on tourists buses and harrasment of Shri Amarnath Yatris. All such incidents create fear and anguish in the mind of tourists. Thus, the Govt must ensure protection and safety of tourists besides infrastructural development of tourist resorts and better facilities for them so that we symbolize with the Indian tradition of “Atithi Devobhav” in its true essence.
