JAMMU, Nov 29: Under the directions of the Divisional Administration Jammu, a cultural extravaganza programme as well as Mata ki Chowki was organised at Jhiri Mela.
The programm was organised by the Directorate of Tourism Jammu.
On the occasion cultural programs, local folk songs and dances were performed by the talented artists of JKACCL.
Besides, Mata ki Chowki, led by renowed artist Sandeep Sood, resonated with devotional bhajans and bhaints, creating a spiritual ambiance.
Sunaina Mehta, Joint Director Tourism was the chief guest of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the significance of Jhiri Mela as a crucial fair which not only celebrates tradition but also serves as a platform to sensitise the public about the various Government schemes and policies, empowering them with knowledge.
She further added that this year The UT Government has made elaborate arrangements, aimed to provide visitors with a memorable experience. The festivities included amusement parks, recreational activities, local delicacies, cultural programs, folk songs and dances, dangal and sports activities. A Dogra Pagri Wearing Competition added a touch of tradition.
Adding further, she informed that this year Tourism Department has deployed volunteers as tourism ambassadors to facilitate visitors at strategic locations throughout the mela.
Among others who were present during the event included, Balbir Lal, DDC Member, SDM Marh, Manu Hansa, Sukh Nandan Choudhary, Ex-MLA and prominent citizen Naresh Choudhary.
The Jhiri Mela not only celebrates culture but also pays homage to Baba Jitto, a devotee of Maa Bhagwati and a symbol of farmers’ rights. Legend has it that Baba Jitto fought for farmers’ rights and made the ultimate sacrifice, an act commemorated through this annual event.
