JAMMU, Apr 5: In order to maintain cleanliness and for providing basic amenities to the tourists/public during the upcoming tourist season in the State, the Department of Tourism has ordered installation of mobile toilets/bio toilets across Jammu and Kashmir.
These mobile toilets shall be made available for use of tourists/public free of cost and the handling authority shall also ensure that proper signage is put in place at least 3 kms ahead of the toilet. These mobile toilets shall be operational 24×7 with sufficient manpower for cleanliness/maintenance.
Besides, all establishments of the J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) having toilet facility would also be open for use by the general public/tourists free of cost. The Managing Director, JKTDC shall ensure that proper signage informing about the availability of toilet service would be displaced at site. All Chief Executive Officers of Tourism Development Authorities will ensure availability of functional toilets for tourist in their area.
All the private Hotels, Guest Houses, Resorts, Restaurants etc registered under the Jammu & Kashmir Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1978, have also been directed to keep their establishments having toilet facility open for use by the general public/ tourists free of cost.
The Director Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir shall nominate Nodal Officers not below the rank of Assistant Tourist Officers who would carry out daily inspections and take necessary measures to ensure compliance of this order.
The executing authority for installation of mobile toilets director Tourism Jammu, Director Tourism Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Kargil through CEO Kargil/Zanskar Development Authority and Deputy Commissioner Leh, through Leh Development Authority.
Mobile toilets shall be installed after every 30 kms from Jammu City to Banihal along the National Highway, Jammu City to Katra, Jammu city to Peer Ki Gali via Mughal Road, from Banihal to Srinagar along the National Highway and Peer Ki Gali to Srinagar. In case of Leh and Kargil, these mobile toilets shall be installed after every 50 kms from Zojila to Kargil-Leh border, Kargil to Padum, Zanskar, Kargil to Leh border, Leh to Changthang area and Leh to Nubra area.
The entire cost on account of installation of mobile toilets shall be borne by the Director Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Executive Officers of the concerned Development Authority, out of CAPEX Budget 2019-20. The executing agencies would ensure compliance of this order by April 30, 2019.
From April 25, 2019, a special 15- day cleanliness drive shall be undertaken by Director Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir, Managing Director JKTDC and all Chief Executive Officers. The compliance report of the same shall be submitted to the Office of the Commissioner/Secretary Tourism Department by May 10, 2019, the order further says.
