Tourism in Jammu set to soar with exciting New Year plans: Rai

JAMMU, Dec 28: The Directorate of Tourism today unveiled its vibrant plans for the upcoming New Year, coupled with national-level competitions initiated by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, to give to fillip to tourism in the Jammu region.
In a press conference here, the Director Tourism, Vivekanand Rai, announced the eagerly anticipated Winter Fest at Patnitop, which promises a plethora of adventure activities and serves as a platform for local artists to showcase their talents.
He said the event will feature a captivating performance by Punjabi sensations Sangram Hajra and Sultana from the Nooran Sisters combo. Rai also shared details about the ongoing Vibrant Bhaderwah Festival, which kicked off to resounding acclaim.
Joint Director of Tourism, Sunaina Sharma Mehta, expanded on the plans, revealing the Central Nodal Agency for Sustainable Tourism’s initiatives. Under the Ministry of Tourism’s “Travel for Life – Case Study” and “Tourism for Tomorrow” competitions, she said, participants from public sector organizations, private stakeholders, and universities are invited to showcase best practices in categories like Green Tourism, digitization skills, Tourism MSME, and destination management. Selected entries will be featured on the Sustainable Tourism Website.
The Directorate also opened avenues for participation in competitions such as “Best Rural Tourism Village” and “Best Homestay Facilities,” with a deadline of January 31st on rural.tourism.gov.in.
Adding a musical crescendo to the New Year festivities, the Directorate, in collaboration with M/s. Atlas Management Company, announced the Fulkaari event at Acquaplex Crown on a floating stage near Bagh-e-Bahu. Renowned Punjabi singer Shibjot is set to grace the stage on December 31st for a spectacular New Year celebration.
Deputy Director of Tourism, Dr Umesh Shan, was also present at the occasion. Meanwhile, the Vibrant Bhaderwah Festival’s second day witnessed a surge in tourist influx, contributing significantly to tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. The festival showcased traditional celebrations, cultural performances, local cuisine displays, and outdoor sports activities against the stunning backdrop of Jai Valley’s lush green meadows.
The festival will continue at Guldanda with winter sports, including skiing and cultural performances, culminating on the 31st with performances by renowned artists, including celebrity singer “KAKA.” The event has garnered support from local figures, including Meenakshi, the first local female auto driver, recently commended by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha during his Awaam ki Awaz initiative.
