Tourists assault SDH Tangmarg staff, 4 injured

Srinagar, July 7: A group of tourists from Mumbai today allegedly assaulted the staff at Sub District Hospital Tangmarg injuring at least 4 of the staff members.
Police officials told Excelsior that the incident took place when the tourists reached the hospital to collect the reports of their COVID-19 tests; however, upon being told that the reports were yet to be prepared, they allegedly assaulted the staff on duty.
In the assault, two doctors and two other Government employees on COVID duty have sustained injuries, while the accused tourists have been nabbed and currently lodged in the Police Station Tangmarg.
It has been learned that around 6 people entered the hospital and resorted to vandalism after they were told that the reports are yet to be prepared.
“The tourists were set to visit some other place and there they needed the reports; but when they heard that the reports would take time, they got agitated,” an eyewitness said.
It is also being alleged by the hospital staff that the tourists sought COVID negative without undergoing the test in reality.
As per details, doctors named Dr Ayaz Ahmad and Dr Tahir, Aqib Ahmad Bhat and Irfan Ahmed Reshi were injured in the alleged assault.
In this regard, FIR No 61/2021 under relevant sections stands registered at Police Station Tangmarg and those who have been accused of assault have been identified and the facts are being verified.
