Toyota enters into motor sport

BANGALORE, May 5: After India hosted the Formula One race for the first time last year, Japanese car maker Toyota today unveiled its compact Etios sporty variant of its compact Etios.
The Etios Motor Racing (EMR) concept cars idea would be highlighted through various motorsport activities hosted by the dealers in the city.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) exhibited the concept cars of its EMR series in the city. Introduction of this concept would attract
the youngsters interested in motor sport and activities would be open to the general public as well, a top company official said.
‘Motor sports is becoming more popular in India. The effort is of global perspective wherein our mission is to achieve sustainable growth. This is not just one, we hope to be part of many such movements here,’ Hidehisa Nagae, Executive Managing Coordinator (Marketing), TKM, told reporters here.
Toyota has laid down its global mission of spreading joy, excitement, and fun, ‘Waku Doki’ in Japanese, concept through its products.
R K Ramesh, General Manager, Conversion and Accessories of TKM,
said the new sporty Toyota’s efforts to reach out to the youth. Meanwhile Toyota hosted a hunt for their grand event next year in the EMR series. Out of 3,300 auditioners, 70-odd racers were selected who would be then competing on the tracks to reach the winning spot.
The winner would be given an exposure at the overseas races.
The EMR was unveiled in the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. (UNI)
