REASI, Feb 7: A strong protest was held at outside DC Office Reasi by Tractor trolley operators under the leadership of former Minister Jugal Kishore Sharma, today.
Seeking a fair deal for the tractor and trolley operators who have been rendered jobless by the Government in view of restrictions imposed on lifting of sand and gravel from river beds, the former Minister urged upon the Government to review its orders to save the poor tractor owners from starvation.
He said that the manual lifting of sand material was permissible under the Mining Act, the Government functionaries were exceeding their mandate by imposing a blanket ban on extortion of such materials and the poor tractor and trolley operators were restrained from lifting the said materials, while the big contractors and influential land mafia was openly extracting minerals from river beds by using JCB machines and earth excavators.
Sharma further said that BJP is absolutely doing development by making poor people jobless.
The protestors also staged a sit-in dharna in front of the DC Office gate as they were denied entry into the DC office. The protest was organised in support of the demands by the Tractor Union members including Tariq Bhat, Ajay Salaria, Bishan Magotra and others.
