The Traders Federation Ware House, Nehru Market and various trade organizations of Jammu have strongly demanded that Toll Tax at Lakhanpur be abolished without any more delay. The demand was again reiterated today in a meeting of the traders at Federation Office wherein presidents/secretaries of prominent trade organizations were present.
All the heads of different associations spoke in the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Rattan Lal Mahajan, president, Traders Federation Ware House, Nehru Market. The House was of unanimous view that Toll Tax at Lakhanpur should be abolished and as far as the safeguarding of few products being manufactured by the industries in the State is concerned, the House suggested that Government should find some other alternative to offer incentives to the industries in lieu of charging Toll on goods to the traders.
Deepak Gupta, general secretary of Traders Federation said that GST was introduced with the slogan of ‘One Nation One Tax’. He regretted that it did not see the light of the day in the state of Jammu & Kashmir but implemented across India.
He said that Rs 800-900 crores on the name of State Toll Tax is being collected at Lakhanpur, which at the end of the day is being by the common man living in the State. “Collection of State Toll Tax at Lakhanpur has resulted in huge increase of transportation cost, hardship to drivers and cleaners, inflation and above all a den of corruption,” he said.
He sought immediate closure of the Lakhanpur Toll Plaza in the interest of the common masses. He said that any additional levies and cess in J&K in addition to GST making essential commodities costlier which can not tolerated be by the common man.
The trader fraternity appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to take the matter seriously and asked the concerned department to stop toll tax on all items at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza.
