Traders protest as litter not removed from Sabzi Mandi for 6 days

JAMMU, Dec 30: Sabzi Mandi Fruit and Vegetable Association (SMFVA) Parade here today staged a protest demonstration against Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for not cleaning the market for the last six days.
The protest was led by Subhash Chander Sharma, Association president and the protesters raised slogans against JMC.
“The litter is spread all over here due to which many insects have appeared and the customers are facing a lot of problems in moving through the litter,” Sharma told reporters.
He said that when Rajinder Sharma took over as second Mayor of JMC he invited SMFVA and assured proper cleanliness of the Mandi but nothing of his assurances have materialised.
The SMFVA president also said that when they met the Mayor Rajinder Sharma they raised issues of water and power in Sabzi Mandi and demanded that iron gratings over the drains there as the old one already lying there have been broken.
“During the tenure of former Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, Sabzi Mandi was cleaned twice a day but now it is six days on and none has cared to clean it,” Subhash Sharma maintained.
He informed that JMC is charging rent for shops in the Sabzi Mandi while condition of these shops is dilapidated and some shops even have no roof.
After the protest JMC autos reached Sabzi Mandi and removed the litter from there.
