Traders, residents suffer as footpath work stopped midway

JAMMU, Apr 27: Traders and residents of Ward number 7 here today expressed resentment as the concerned authorities of Smart City Project stopped the work of footpath and covering of deep drains in the area midway.
“Children and elders face a lot of problems while moving through the debris left behind after the authorities broke the footpath,” a shopkeeper at Prem Nagar area of the Ward in Jammu said.
Many others also had similar views while others informed that children mostly fall on the broken footpath and may get grave injuries as iron rebars are left open by the contractor after breaking the already existing footpath and bridges over deep drains over which slabs and iron grills were to be placed.
Many shopkeepers claimed that this has badly affected their business and demanded that the footpaths should be immediately repaired and the deep drains should also be covered.
When contacted Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Councillor, Ritu Chowdhary of Ward number 7, informed that the authorities didn’t informed her when they started the work of breaking of the already existing footpaths in her ward for repairs under Smart City Project.
She informed that the work has been stayed in a court by one another contractor and that might be the reason that it has been stopped midway.
