JAMMU, July 10: Protesting against proposed shifting of General Bus Stand from its present site, traders in the vicinity, bus stand shopkeepers and other stake holders held a strong demonstration and staged dharna, here today.
The protest dharna was organized under the banner of Action Committee General Bus Stand Jammu. Shouting slogans against the move and terming the same as ill advised, the protesting traders appealed the Government to review its decision on shifting of the bus stand.
The dharna was addressed by convener of the Action Committee, Inderjeet Khajuria and other leaders of the trading community as well as social organization who opposed the move of shifting the bus stand. They threatened to continue and further intensify their agitation if the authorities do not review decision on shifting of the bus stand.
They suggested that instead of shifting the bus stand for any route from the BC Road site, the road should be decongested by not allowing any pick up or drop passengers between Ambphalla and Tawi Bridge. Further, these are the buses plying without authorized permit, which occupy space on the road and this should be strictly prohibited, they explained while pointing towards encroachment in the bus stand area.
The Action Committee leaders also claimed that shifting of bus stand would create great inconvenience to general public, particularly elderly people and women to reach city, particularly at late hours.
