He said the enforcement drives saw the seizure of 553 vehicles and the lodging of 29 FIRs for overloading in Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
Majority of these cases were concentrated in Districts Doda & Kishtwar, Udhampur, and Ramban, underscoring the Traffic Police’s commitment to curb overloading and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
“Traffic Police NHW Ramban took strict action against overtaking/wrong lane driving, booking 800 violators, and issued 326 challans for dangerous driving/red light jumping,” stated DIG Mughal.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining lane discipline, particularly on the challenging NH-44 stretch from Nashri to Banihal, which is prone to traffic disruptions due to ongoing construction and natural hazards.
Apart from enforcement, Traffic Police NHW conducted 145 traffic awareness programs across Ramban, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, and Kishtwar districts, educating drivers, students, and transport associations on road safety and their responsibilities.
“As part of corrective measures, Traffic Police NHW recommended 44 cases for suspension/cancellation of driving licenses and vehicle registrations,” added DIG Mughal, stressing the need for strict compliance with traffic laws to mitigate road accidents and ensure public safety.
To bolster traffic management, CCTV cameras were installed at key congestion points, enabling real-time monitoring of traffic flow and identifying violators, he said.
Moreover, personnel are undergoing training in the use of advanced equipment such as e-Challan machines, breath analyzers, and body-worn cameras to enhance operational efficiency and transparency.
DIG Mughal urged all road users to adhere to traffic rules, avoid reckless behaviors like drunken driving and using mobile phones while driving, and support efforts to maintain road safety.
He reiterated the Traffic Police’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect for law and safety on the highways.
