SRINAGAR: Traffic was restored on the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, after remaining suspended on Thursday afternoon due to landslides, triggered by rain.
”We have allowed fresh traffic on Friday on the highway after clearing all stranded vehicles,” a traffic police official said.
He said traffic was suspended on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway yesterday afternoon after rain triggered landslides at Zojila pass. However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance highway, immediately pressed into sophisticated machine to put through the strategically important road.
Later, all stranded vehicles, including those carrying tourists, besides trucks were allowed to move towards their respective destinations.
Traffic on the highway is allowed from Kargil and Drass in Ladakh towards Kashmir valley in the morning because of one-way traffic at Zojila, he said, adding that later vehicles are allowed from Sonmarg in central Kashmir to cross over to other side.
Meanwhile, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway and historic 86-km-long, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region are through for traffic. (AGENCIES)
