LEH, July 13: To create awareness among the telecom consumers about their rights and privileges, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) organized telecom consumer out-reach programme here today.
Large number of telecom consumers, representatives of all telecom service providers, Government officers, Consumer Advocacy Groups and Consumers Forum and NGOs participated in the programme.
Secretary TRAI, New Delhi Sudhir Gupta presided over the programme and delivered a keynote address highlighting about the various measures taken by TRAI in recent times to protect the consumer’s interest and various consumer centric regulations, directions and orders issued by TRAI.
Senior Advisor (CA/B&CS) TRAI New Delhi explained about the roles and functions of TRAI, the various initiatives taken by TRAI for the protection of telecom consumers, along with the rights and privileges of telecom consumers. TRAI regulations concerning Mobile Number Portability (MNP), Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC), Complaint Redressal Mechanism and VAS etc were also highlighted.
Senior Advisor Angeshwar and Senior Research Officer, TRAI GP Vishnoi made a presentation covering the various issues related with consumers of telecom and broadcasting sector.
The main issues covered in the programme included Complaint Redressal, Mobile Number Portability, Unsolicited Commercial Communications, Value Added Services, Information to Consumers and the Digitization of cable TV network.
After the presentation, an interactive session was also organized in which participant’s doubts queries and complaints were taken up by TRAI officers as well as senior officers of the telecom companies.
TDM, Leh Phuntsog Dorje while replying about the call conjunction problems in Leh said that 29 towers are functioning in Leh and 6 more towers would be made functional in coming two months.
He said that LAHDC Leh, District Administration and local people are not supporting them for providing space of land for installation of towers while as the LAHDC, Kargil was providing full support in this regard.
Deputy Director General suggested for tower sharing and installation of tower at Government offices.
