Training course on ‘Human Rights & Criminal Justice System’ commences at SKPA

JAMMU, Aug 20: A three-day training program on “Human Rights & Criminal Justice System” began today at Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Udhampur, with fifteen officers from the J&K Police participating.
A statement said that the course aims to equip law enforcement officers with the knowledge to integrate Human Rights principles within the criminal justice system.
It said that the inaugural session of the course was led by Rajinder Kumar Gupta, SSP and Deputy Director (Indoor Training).
In his address, Gupta emphasized the importance of human rights in policing, stating that law enforcement officers must not only enforce the law but also act as protectors of human dignity and rights.
According to him, the training program focuses on the balance between security and justice, highlighting the need for police to safeguard citizens’ rights.
Gupta noted that protecting fundamental human rights is a crucial aspect of ethical and effective policing.
The statement further said that the training course covers a range of topics, including the relationship between human rights and fundamental rights, the structure of the criminal justice system, the historical development of human rights in India, and the role of the National and State Human Rights Commissions.
Other key areas include the rights of women and children, human rights issues in law enforcement, and the conduct of police in enforcing anti-terrorist laws in disturbed areas.
Distinguished guest speakers from the police force and academic institutions will provide insights throughout the program.
The course is coordinated by Inspector Sandeep Mahajan, with assistance from SI Irshad Ahmad, a faculty member at SKPA.
Gupta extended a warm welcome to all participants, stating that the course is essential for fostering an ethical and accountable police force that values human rights within the criminal justice system.
