Transport Commissioner reviews preparedness for Road Safety Week

JAMMU, Apr 17: State Transport Commissioner, Saugat Biswas, today reviewed the preparedness for observing the 29th Road Safety Week in Jammu and also finalized the action plan for its observance in all districts across the State.
The meeting was attended by officers of various departments including Traffic, Health, School Education, Higher Education, Fire & Emergency Services, Information, Culture Department, in addition to Jammu University, Scouts & Guides and NCC.
The Road Safety Week will be observed across the State with a variety of activities with one major activity assigned for each day of all the seven days.
Activities such as Walkathon by school and college students will be held on April 23. Eye testing and health camps with road safety quiz competitions shall be organized at various locations in the State for the drivers and the associated staff of commercial vehicles on April 24 in collaboration with the Health Department and Red FM.
April 25 will see elaborate awareness programme on accident management for drivers, vehicle staff students and volunteers of NSS, NCC, etc. A mega on-the-spot painting competition will be held at Kala Kendra, Jammu on April 26 for young students. A “Helmet Rally” on two wheelers will be brought out on the streets of Jammu on April 27, Poster making competition in collaboration with Big-FM on April 28 and a cycle rally on April 29. The week will end with a grand finale on April 30.
Transport Commissioner, Biswas informed that this year the theme of the Road Safety Week will be “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha”. We are trying to rope in all agencies like schools, colleges, Universities, NGOs and Traffic Police Department to participate actively in the Road Safety Week. The idea is to sensitize people towards safe driving practices and good road behavior.
The Additional Transport Commissioner, Mohinder Singh, informed that during the week all the vehicle users found adhering to good practices on roads like wearing helmets, seat belts and adhering to traffic lights and rules will be felicitating on the roads.
