Transport Commissioner stresses on massive awareness about road safety

JAMMU, Dec 28: Emphasizing on massive awareness among the people about the road safety measures and traffic rules, Transport Commissioner Parvaiz I Khateeb stressed for celebrating 27th Road Safety Week with a goal to ensure greater participation of general people to achieve the target.
Transport Commissioner was speaking at a meeting, convened here today to review the arrangements for observing the 27th Road Safety Week from January 10 to January 16, 2016. He asked the concerned departments to gear up their men and machinery for making the event a grand success.
Threadbare discussions were held on vital issues for organizing various activities during the week long programme.
It was informed in the meeting that the Road Safety Week would be observed by organizing awareness activities like Walkathon, cyclothon, Drivers Health Checkup, Police Bike Rally, Symposium, Painting Competition of school and college students, Health check-up cum awareness camp of drivers of passenger service vehicles, Blood donation Camp, awareness of motorists at crossings by volunteers and wide publicity through print and electronic media.
It was informed that the inaugural programme would start on January 10 with Walkathon, and flagging off a rally from Green Field Ground, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
He informed that motto of the Road Safety Week 2016 is “Road Safety, Time for Action “and said that concerted efforts will be made to create awareness about the Road Safety among major stakeholders like commuters, road users, pedestrians, public transports users and associations, motor vehicle Department, Traffic Police, Trauma Care, education sector and especially youths.
The Transport Commissioner directed for simultaneous organization of Road Safety Week at district levels in collaboration with the district authorities. He emphasized that the need of the hour is to create the awareness round the year and including of Road Safety as a chapter in school curriculum, use of media including social media and involving NGO’s, Voluntary organization, etc.
RTO Jammu Ashwani Khajuria informed that already a “Road Safety Cell” has been constituted in the RTO office for coordinating with different departments and participating institutions to make traffic week a mega success.

Jamwal, Joint Director Information Jammu Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Joint Director Fire Services R T Dubey , SSP Traffic, Mohan Lal, State Commissioner, Bharat Scouts & Guides, I. D. Soni, CEO Jammu J. K. Sudan, SE R&B Sudheer Shah, besides other senior officers of concerned departments and representatives of different NGO’s also attended the meeting.
