KATHUA, July 8: Secretary to Government, Transport Department R K Bhagat along with Transport Commissioner P I Khateeb today reviewed the functioning of RTO Office here.
Additional Transport Commissioner, Ajay Singh Jamwal, Additional Secretary Transport Ashok Kumar, RTO Jammu Ashwani Khajuria, RTO Kathua Amarjeet Singh, Deputy Director Planning, ARTO Kathua and officials of RTO office Kathua attended the meeting.
Bhagat laid stress on installation of digital meters in auto rickshaws, installation of speed governors in the commercial vehicles, periodic road checking to ensure compliance of the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act particularly commercial vehicles, proper implementation of the time table by buses and providing service on all the routes of the district.
He also laid stress on the hassle free entry of the buses carrying Shri Amarnathji yatris and directed RTO Kathua to prepare a schedule of awareness programmes on road safety to be conducted during the year. He also directed to hold periodic meetings of the District Road Safety Committee and identification of black spots.
Transport Commissioner informed that the reforms regarding charging entry tax on 24 hourly basis has given big relief to the pilgrims, who were earlier made to wait for hours at the check post by the vehicle operators.
RTO Kathua informed that the department is organizing regular programmes on road safety in schools and health and eye check-ups for the commercial drivers. He further informed that the department has tightened noose on the violators and periodic road checking has resulted in a record revenue realization.
Later, Secretary Transport and Transport Commissioner inaugurated single window for vehicle registrations in the RTO office where all the requisite formalities including deposition of fee will be done at the same counter.
