MENDHAR, Mar 18: The Transport Union members of Mendhar Sub Division in district Poonch today staged strong protest demonstration here against the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for dilapidated condition of Mendhar- Bhimber Gali (BG) road.
Strong resentment is brewing among the Transport operators of Mendhar Sub Division against the failure of the BRO authorities to undertake repair of the Mendhar -BG Road. They assembled at Bus Stand Mendhar today and held strong protest. They were shouting slogans against BRO and District Administration, Poonch. Even the road condition in Mendhar town is also worst and the local administration has also failed to pull up the BRO authorities.
They said bad condition of the road was also drastically affecting transport business. The Union president Kafeel Khan said the public transport owners have hiked fare rates due to bad condition of the roads in the area.
Some other drivers Mohammad Shafeeq, Mohammad Ismail and Bablu Khan said that the condition of road is so bad that most of the people among them have stopped to ply their vehicles on the stretch.
The road at many places including Mendhar- Dhargloon TV Tower and BG Main Chowk is dotted with potholes posing risk of accidents. The locals alleged that the GREF/BRO has failed to undertake even minor repair work s on this vital road.
The transporters have sought the intervention of Lt. Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to issue directions to the BRO and get the road repaired.
