JAMMU, Jan 16: A delegation of several unions of drivers’ associations and association of transport owners today called on Rajinder Singh Tara, J&K Transport Commissioner and put forth their demands.
The delegation, led by Karan Singh Wazir along with Parvinder Singh Happy, briefed the Transport Commissioner about the problem being faced by the transporters and drivers.
The transporters urged the Commissioner to sensitize the subordinate staff to resolve the minor concerns and issues of the drivers on spots and maintain bonhomie and a relationship of fraternity with the transporters.
The Transport Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that all their genuine issues would be resolved amicably and all the decisions regarding transport sector would be taken only after consultation with different unions and associations of the transporters. The Commissioner further informed the delegation that the Government is well aware of the concerns of the transporters of J & K.
The transporters assured the Commissioner their fullest cooperation to the J&K administration and Transport Department in particular for smooth flow of traffic and also in maintaining law and order situation.
The preparations for observing and celebrating traffic month was also discussed in the meeting. The Transport Commissioner asked the transporters to come forward and avail various welfare scheme run by the J&K Government for boosting transport sector.
The prominent persons who were part of the delegation, included Ranjit Singh Raina, President J&K Oil Tanker Union; Harasis Singh, Spokesperson of the Oil Tanker Union; Vijay Dogra, representative of Taxi- Tempo Union; KD Singh, 2×2 Buses Banihal Group; Harpal Singh of Manpreet Travels, Jugal Gandotra of Karan Travels, Rampal of Karan Travels Group, Amarjeet Singh Chairman Bus Sleeper Coaches, Gurtek Singh of Kaka Travels, Mohinder Singh of Truck operators Union, Avinash Choudhary, Chairman Border Welfare Organisation, Swaran Singh, member of Taxi Union and others.
