Transporters hold meet, discuss issues

JAMMU, Sept 28: A meeting of All J&K Transports Welfare Association was held under the chairmanship of its Chairman T S Wazir wherein several issues of the transporters were discussed.
It was disclosed in the meeting that Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given exemption to all the public service vehicles which are registered up to December 31, 2018 from the fitment of vehicle location tracking device and panic buttons and only the public service vehicles registered on and after January 1, 2019 are required to be fitted with such devices.
The members said that they are passing through crucial stage due to various factors like direct trains from Jammu to Katra, implementation of taxes and fees by the Central and State Governments and disturbances due to abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A.
