Transporters protest against demolition of KMD office

Srinagar, Aug 1: Dozens of transporters on Saturday staged a protest against demolition of Kashmir Motor Drivers (KMD) office by Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) at Batamaloo bus stand here.
The transporters appeared in press enclave and raised massive anti-Government slogans over the demolition and termed demolishing of KMD office as “State terrorism”.
“This protest is against the brutality and oppression of State. Yesterday at 9:15, the office of KMD established in year 1928 was demolished by SDA without any notice or information,” the General Secretary of Kashmir Transport Welfare Association, Ghulam Muhammad, told reporters here.
He said the issue was already in court and the SDA should have thought hundreds times before going for demolition. “They violated all the norms. Not only we but traders and civil society would also approach court over this issue,” he said.
The transporters, while alleging conspiracy, appealed Chief Minister to visit the Batamaloo Bus Stand and take stock of the situation personally. “He should come and see how conspiracies to destroy the transporters of valley are being hatched,” they said.
Despite repeated attempts, the Vice Chairman (VC) of SDA could not be contacted for his comment on the issue.
