JAMMU, June 6: Transporters and operators of mini-buses and auto-rickshaws today held protest demonstration against the UT Administration and Transport authorities.
A large number of Mini-bus/Autorickshaw operators and transporters led by Provincial president of Mini-bus Union Vijay Singh Chib and Chairman S Niranjan Singh and Autorikshaw Union president, Shanti Saroop assembled at Bakshi Nagar, near Govt Medical College and held strong protest demonstration.
They were raising slogans against Transport authorities and District and UT Administration. They pointed out that UT Government introduced e-Rickshaws in Jammu province but framed no rules for it. The Transport authorities have not identified their routes and fixed fare of different routes. They are moving rudderless in violation of routes. Their drivers are operating without license and fleecing passengers.
Vijay Singh Chib said DC Jammu had identified 86 routes and divided them in six zones for them but these e-rickshaws are moving in violation of route. There is no policy with the UT Administration for these rickshaws, he alleged.
Chib said that Government has recently accepted several demands of the transporters but this issue remained unresolved. He urged the LG’s administration to resolve the issue, otherwise, transporters being affected with their (e-rickshaws) `illegal operation’ will be forced to launch agitation.
