JAMMU, Dec 27: Treasury Officer of Gandoh was today caught red-handed by the State Vigilance Organization (SVO) while demanding and accepting Rs 5000 as bribe.
An official spokesman said that on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Mohd Rafiq Zargar, son of Mangtoo Zargar of Gandoh, a trap was laid against Treasury Officer Gandoh namely Shiv Kumar Sharma, son of Swami Raj Sharma of Doda.
During the trap, the Treasury Officer was caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
Accordingly, a case under Section 5(1) (d) read with Section 5(2) of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him at Police Station Vigilance Organization Jammu.
The trap was laid by the Vigilance sleuths under the supervision of Kartar Singh Kotwal, Deputy Superintendent of Police VOJ.
According to the complaint, the Treasury Officer had demanded Rs 7000 from the complainant for settling his pension claims and after negotiation the Treasury Officer agreed for Rs 5000 bribe for release of his pension for the month of November 2017.
