Trespassing on railway tracks deemed a serious offense, says SCR GM

HYDERABAD, Nov 6: Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway, has emphasised that trespassing on railway tracks is a serious offense that endangers public safety and disrupts train operations.
He stressed the need for increased public awareness to prevent such incidents.
During a safety review meeting held at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad on Monday, Jain instructed railway officials to conduct widespread awareness campaigns, including counseling sessions at village Panchayats, to educate the general public about safety procedures when crossing railway tracks at level crossings.
Jain also advised officials to organise regular counseling programs for locomotive pilots and assistant locomotive pilots to reinforce the importance of following proper safety procedures and avoiding shortcuts. He encouraged them to come up with new ideas and suggestions to enhance safety in train operations and prevent minor incidents that could disrupt punctuality.
In addition, the General Manager discussed various aspects of train operations, including the situation of rolling stock, signaling equipment, and the elimination of manned level crossings. He stressed the need to focus on the working hours of train crew members and ensure they receive adequate rest.
Jain also addressed punctuality issues related to mail and express trains. He urged officials to improve punctuality by focusing on track maintenance, speed restrictions, and departure timings at originating stations. He recommended studying train timing schedules to enhance punctuality and emphasized the importance of monitoring the primary maintenance of coaching trains, which includes cleaning, watering, and catering services, as these factors can indirectly impact punctuality.
The meeting was attended by R. Dhananjayulu, Additional General Manager, SCR, along with all the Principal Heads of Departments. Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) from all six divisions, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, and Nanded, joined the review meeting via video conference. (UNI)
