Two years ago, Jammu lost a philanthropist, a social worker in the shape of Kewal Krishan Gupta. Born on 8th August 1933 at Jammu. The main and objective of Mr Gupta remained to help and uplift the victims and families below poverty line. He never backed out in fighting for a social work and in helping the masses without creed and caste. The feeling of helping and supporting the masses especially poor was so deepened in his heart and mind that he always loved to face all kinds of odds for the pleasure of others. He always believed that service to humanity is the service of God. This is the basic reason that the poor masses remember him as their God-father and his name is being taken with great love, respect and honour. Kewal Krishan Gupta was born on 8th August 1933 at Jammu to Dr. Lal Chand Gupta and Beera Devi. He had to discontinue his normal studies to look after the free eye clinic, being run by his ancestors to help the poor. He then did RMP in order to continue the social work along with business. During his life time, he was counted amongst the great personalities of Jammu. Like his well-known father Dr. Lal Chand Gupta, Dr Kewal Krishan Gupta also carved out a place in the hearts of many people for “Free treatment” of eye ailments at famous “GUPTA EYE LOTION CLINIC” City Chowk Jammu established in the year 1933. There was lack of medical services and public awareness about prevalence of common diseases. This small eye clinic played a pivotal role in providing relief to minor ailment patients, especially the poor and needy.
CENTRE OF SERVICE
This centre of service for low cost or even free treatment for eye ailments has been rendering valuable medical aid for over half a century now. After his departure to heavenly adobe, he is being remembered for the yeoman’s work rendered to poor people. It is noteworthy that this Gupta family, belonging to Ghoregali in Sialkote area, in pre-partition period headed by Dr. Lal Chand Gupta shifted to Jammu during 1931, with high public-spirit and sense of social work. He set up “GUPTA EYE LOTION CLINIC” at City Chowk and started rendering Low cost treatment for eye ailments and gradually gained popularity. There was always rush of patients at this clinic known for patience and deep sense of service.
EXAMPLE FOR SERVICE
It may be mentioned that the founder of this EYE CLINIC. Dr. Lal Chand Gupta had a spiritual bent of mind and his mother had instructed him to serve the humanity at all costs and in every circumstance. This service to ailing mankind is true worship of the Almighty and this advice always remained with his family which is still undertaking social service. Kewal Krishan Gupta will be remembered for his social services and contribution to the society. He is being remembered on his 2nd Death Anniversary. No doubt Gupta Ji is not with us but due to his selfless service for mankind his name will remain always alive in our hearts. An epitome of humanity and resilience, Mr. Gupta went on to become one of the most enduring icons, who dedicated his entire life in the service of the people.
