Tributes paid to Brigadier Rajinder Singh on 120th birth anniversary

JAMMU, June 14: Former Minister, Chander Prakash Ganga, while paying tributes to Brigadier Rajinder Singh, the ‘Saviour of Kashmir’, on his 120th birth anniversary observed at his native village Bagoona in Samba, made a fervent appeal to Prime Minister, Narendera Modi to scrap Articles 370 and 35 A from J&K terming it as a tribute to the legend in a true sense.
Ganga, while remembering the outstanding contribution of Singh towards the State and the Nation, said that he is the ‘Immortal Dogra’ and the ‘Saviour of Kashmir’ and the people of J&K are proud to have such ancestors.
“Singh hailed from the Duggar land of Jammu, a community deeply entrenched in the armed forces of India for several generations,” Ganga further said adding that Singh continues to be an inspiration for people across Jammu where almost every household has one or two members serving in armed forces, many defending the border and Kashmir valley.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Ankush Jamwal, President Brig Rajinder Singh Youth Brigade; Deepak Pargotra, Chairman MC Vijaypur; Narinder Partap, District President BJYM Samba and others.
Meanwhile, J&K Freedom Fighters Association (JKFFA) on Friday paid rich tributes to Brigadier Rajinder Singh on his 120th birth anniversary.
On this occasion a function was organized by JKFFA Chairman, Ved Gandotra and Vice Chairman, Rajiv Mahajan at Dogra Shourya Sthal, Amphalla, here where prominent members of JKFFA were also present and paid floral tributes to the great soul.
Speaking on the occasion, R.C Puri, President JKFFA said, “It is a proud moment for all of us that Brigadier Rajinder Singh belonged to Jammu and was Independent India’s first Maha Vir Chakra recipient.
He further said that Brigadier Singh was the unsung hero who saved Kashmir from falling in hands of Pakistani raiders in 1947.
“With just 100 troopers, Singh stopped Pakistani army and raiders in Kashmir and sacrificed his life on October 26, 1947 while fighting the enemy force of over 5,000 troops,” Puri informed.
