*Various organizations demand holiday on Sept 23

JAMMU, Sept 23: Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, Yuva Rajput Sabha and various other political, social trade and youth organizations besides educational institutions celebrated birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh with great pomp and show and also paid floral tributes to the last Dogra ruler of the Jammu and Kashmir State.

Yuva Rajput Sabha led by its president, Surinder Singh Gilli took out a huge car- bike rally from Keran- Ban Talab to the Statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near Tawi bridge. Thousands of youth in traditional Dogra dress with typical turban and many carrying swords were chanting slogans in the praise of Maharaja. The rally after passing though Roop Nagar, Janipur, New Plot, BC Road, Bus Stand and Jewel Chowk area, reached the main Tawi bridge. There were over 500 cars/ jeeps and about double number of bikes/ scooters as part of this Youth rally. On reaching Tawi bridge, they all paid floral tributes to Maharaja and garlanded the his Statue. Several leaders also addressed the gathering.
Surinder Singh demanded holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, creation of Rajput Welfare Board. He said J&K UT was not acceptable and J&K State should be restored without any more delay.
Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha (J&K) under the leadership of Th Pavittar Singh Bhardwaj, president of the Sabha celebrated 125th birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh with great fervour and enthusiasm. Floral tributes were paid to the Maharaja, an extremely dynamic, visionary, progressive, social reformer and a great patriot, who can be undoubtedly claimed as the saviour of J&K, as his timely signing of the instrument of accession integrated State of Jammu & Kashmir with India. His famous quote is still echoes in the minds of people “Justice is my religion”. Mahraja Hari Singh’s kingdom had included PoK, Gilgit, Baltistan and also part of Tibet, Singh said.
Samba Unit of the Rajpuit Sabha also celebrated birthday of Late Maharaja and paid him rich tributes. A function in this connection was held under the leadership of Capt Inder Singh and former president and BJP leader, Narayan Singh.
Rajya Sabha MP, S S Manhas was the chief guest while MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and former local MLAs Devinder Manyal and Yash Pal Kundal were the special guests. They all paid floral tributes to Maharaja and spoke on his achievements and reforms. They strongly demanded holiday on Sept 23.
Management and staff of Maharaja Hari Singh Social and Educational Foundation Jammu and Rajput Charitable Trust paid rich tributes to last Dogra ruler. Various dignitaries, prominent citizens attended the programme and paid tributes to Maharaja. Prominent among those included SS Sodhi Director DPS, MS Jamwal, Secretary Rajput Charitable Trust, CL Malhotra, RK Karandeep Singh and others.
Dogra Sadar Sabha, J&K and All Jammu Civil Society Forum also celebrated birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh at DSS Bhawan here today. Th Gulchain Singh Charak, president of the Sabha along with other members paid floral tributes to the last Dogra ruler and demanded that Government must fulfill pending demand of the people from J&K about holiday on the birthday of the great Maharaja. Mr Charak also spoke on the great achievements and reforms of Maharaja. He was accompanied by Prem Sagar Gupta, Maj Gen GS Jamwal, Brig MS Jamwal, Col Virender Sahi (Retd), Prof Anita Billowaria, JP Singh and others.
BJP District Unit Jammu West led by Ayodhya Gupta, MLC Ramesh Arora, Dr Pardeep Mahotra and others paid rich tributes to Maharaja in a function organised at party office Kachi Chawni today. They described Maharaja as great social reformer, kind hearted and visionary ruler. Members of Mahila Morcha and other units of the party were also present. Sweets were also distributed among the members.
Congress celebrated birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh in a function held at Sunderbani in which Ravinder Sharma, former MLC was the chief guest while several prominent leaders, Panchs, Sarpanchs and functionaries of Block Congress Committee attended.
Remembering the last ruler of the State for his great contribution, Sharma said that Maharaja Hari Singh was the most progressive, secular and nationalist ruler of the princely state who fought against the supremacy of the Britishers and acceded to India as last ruler of the State. He said that Maharaja had introduced several progressive and welfare programmes in the state which showed his statesmanship. He prohibited child marriage, opened temple for all downtrodden sections and enacted the State Subject Law to protect the culture, identity and interests of people of Dogra state. Congress organised yet another function in this connection at Udhampur under the leadership of Sumeet Magotra.
J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu also celebrated birth anniversary of the Maharaja Hari Singh, in the High Court complex here today. The celebration was held under the chairmanship of Abhinav Sharma, president of the Association. The other office bearers of the Association, namely -Rohit Bhagat vice president, Abhishek Wazir -general secretary, Pardeep Majotra, Sushant Samnotra, Upasna Thakur, Amzi Arthur besides many senior and young members were also present on the occasion.
BS Slathia, former president while speaking on the occasion highlighted the contributions of Maharaja Hari Singh. He appealed to the Governor, Jammu & Kashmir for declaring September 23 as Gazetted holiday. Abhinav gratified to the contribution of Maharaja in the socio-political & religious reforms in the State. He said it was Maharaja Hari Singh who established High Court of Judicature in 1928 in the J&K State to bring it at par with the progress of the country.
District Bar Association, Kathua organized `Shardanjli Samaroh’ and paid homage to Maharaja. President of the Association, Adv Ajat Shatru Sharma and other senior members addressed the gathering.
DPS Nagbani, Rich Harvest School Bari Brahmana, Team Jammu and NDPI also celebrated birthday of great Maharaja and paid rich tributes. Team Jammu members led by Zorawar Singh Jamwal, its president, distributed `Halwa’ among the people at different points of Jammu city today. The reports of celebrations have also received from various parts of the State.
