JAMMU, Jan 30: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and former Union Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has described Mahatma Gandhi as real saint who earned name in the entire world by showing his tolerance against violence. He said Gandhiji’s contribution is matchless and everyone inspires from his teachings and acts.
While speaking in a function organised by Flag Foundation of India at Mubarak Mandi here this evening, Prof Soz said the real tributes to this saint would be to follow his foot- steps and promote communal harmony, mutual brotherhood and uplifting of poor and needy. He said Gandhiji worked for equality and removing un-touchability.
Prof Soz asked the people to work for empowering the nation and carry forward the mission of the Mahatma where all sections of the society live in peace. He said in freedom struggle all sections took equal part and liberated the country from colonial rulers under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. A two-minute silence was observed to pay respect to Mahatma. This function under the banner of Flag Foundation of India (NGO), was organised in 55 locations in the country. The main function was held at India Gate in New Delhi and it was telecast live.
The function, “Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par” , was attended by galaxy of ministers and legislators including Rigzin Jora, Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Ghulam Ahmed Mir-all Ministers. Bhajans dearer to Bapu were also sung by the artists. Flag Foundation of India, a registered Society was established by Congress MP Naveen Jindal in 2002 with a vision to popularize the display of `Tiranga’ by more and more Indians with a great sense of pride.
Pradesh Congress Committee in a function held at party headquarters Srinagar also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. PCC vice president Ghulam Nabi Monga (MLC) presided over while several senior leaders and party workers were present on the occasion. They said Gandhiji symbolizes secular and democratic India. They said Gandhiji always struggled for unity, secularism, brotherhood, and upliftment of weaker sections. They described Gandhiji as an apostle of peace and a staunch believer in non-violence. Through `Satyagrah’, his great weapon against the mighty British rulers, Gandhiji attained freedom for the countrymen.
Several senior PCC & DCC leaders leaders including GN Mir Lasjan, Zahid Hussain, Farooq Andrabi, Ghulam Hassan Jeelani, Mohd Sultan, Abdul Ghani Naseem, Mushtaq Bazaz and others paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
District Congress Committee Jammu Urban orgnaised yet another function at party office here today. Former MLA and DCC president Om Chopra presided over the function. Mahila Congress and BCC and Ward members of the party also attended it. They all recalled the contribution of Gandhiji and paid their rich tributes. Congress Seva Dal members led by Balwinder Singh Sambyal also paid tributes to Gandhiji in a function here. Former Minister and senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil was chief guest.
DCC Udhampur, organised function under the leadership of Anil Pachyala ( working president) in which senior several party leaders and others paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Another function was held under the leadership of senior DCC leader Brij Mohan Sharma in which many office bearers of DCC participated. Congress Seva Dal district unit also held similar function to pay tributes to Gandhiji. Shakeel Shah was special invitee on the occasion. Seva Bharti Udhampur unit while paying tributes to Gandhiji recalled his contributions for the society and the country. It was held at Govt Girls High School, Udhampur. Maridula Sharma HM was the chief guest while Vice president Seva Bharti unit, Neelam Nargotra as guest of honour.
BCC Akhnoor unit in a function organised under the leadership of Baldev Raj Sharma paid rich tributes to Mahatma Ghandhi. City president Madan Lal Gupta and other office bearers and party activists were also present. Several party leaders addressed the gathering.
Gandhi Global Family also paid rich tributes to father of the nation in a function held at Mubarak Mandi this morning. Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu was the chief guest while Commissioner JMC Kiran Wattal guest of honour. Wing Comdr M M Joshi, Ashwani Jojra, Amit Verma and others from GGF were also present besides a large number of members. The chief guest and others paid floral tributes to Late Gandhi and recalled his contributions for the society and the country in freedom struggle.
Mahatma Gandhi Intellectual Society, organised a function at Satwari to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 67th death anniversary. Minister for Housing Raman Bhalla who was chief guest paid tributes to the Late Gandhi and recalled his matchless contributions for the country. Several political leaders including R S Chib (Ex-Minster), Manjit Singh ( Ex-Minister) and social activists attended the function and paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Programme was organised by Kuldeep Raj Gupta.
National Panthers Party (NPP) organised a function at Birla House New Delhi to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his Martyrdom day. Prof Bhim Singh chief patron along with Delhi Pradesh unit chief Rajiv Jolly Khosla, Romesh Khajuria, B S Billowaria, Nasreen Hamid senior journalist and others paid floral tributes to father of the nation. Prof Singh called upon the young generation to learn from the experiences of great men like Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda.
Meanwhile, Khadi Gram Mandal staff Jammu led by secretary Subash Chand, staff of Income Tax Department Jammu led by A K Thathai (Commissioner) and Sacred Heart College of Education also paid tributes to Gandhiji in different functions held today.
