Tributes paid to Nehru on Children’s Day

JAMMU, Nov 14: Rich tributes were paid to first Prime Minister of  the country Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru on his birth anniversary by Congress party and various other organizations in the region.
Pradesh Congress Committee organized a function in this connection at the party headquarters Shahidi Chowk  here today which was presided over by senior vice president  and Ex-MP Dharam Pal Sharma. Several senior party functionaries and others attended.
The day is also celebrated as  the Children’s Day. The speakers at the meeting while paying tributes to Pt Nehru, described him as an architect of modern India who laid down the strong foundations of the policies of modern India. The scientific growth of the country was ensured by thrust on the educational system, they maintained.
They said Pt Nehru was one of the tallest leaders of the world because of his far-sightedness and statesmanship qualities. He played great role in the international politics and gave birth to the NAM, changing the course of international politics when the world was split into two blocks.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included Sports and Medical Education Minister R S Chib, PCC vice president S Gurmukh Singh, MLC Ravinder Sharma, former Minister Mula Ram, Kanta Bhan, Ex-MLA Ram Dass Dogra, K L Gupta, C L Bhat, Ex-MLA Bharat Gandhi, Hari Singh Chib, D S Langeh, Manjit Singh Jatt, Ravi Singh Slathia, J N Sharma and Vijay Sharma.
Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma chaired a function organized in connection with Children’s Day at Govt College for Women, Parade Ground here today. It was organized by Vasudeva Kutumbakam Welfare Society. Mr Sharma demanded implementation of Right to Education Act and Juvenile Justice Act on Central pattern in J&K.
Prominent social activist Prof Ved Kumari Ghai, president of the Society apprised the MP and other dignitaries about the achievements of the society and also demanded implementation of Right to Education Act in State. Many student achievers were awarded on the occasion.
Pradesh Congress Seva Dal led by Balwinder Singh Sambyal, DCC Udhampur, DCC Kishtwar,  DCC Doda, BCC Akhnoor, Nehru Yuva Kendra Poonch and several other Block and district committees paid tributes to Pt Nehru in different functions organized today.
Gandhi Global Family also organized a separate function at Bal Niketan School Ved Mandir,  Jammu in which Minister of State for Cooperatives Dr Manohar Lal Sharma was chief guest. It was also attended by president of the Gandhi Global Family, S P Verma, Secretary Bal Niketan and Principal of the school V K Maggu and staff besides children.
J&K Development Forum organized a function at Gandhinagar in which Ex-MP and senior Congress leader Janak Raj Gupta was the chief guest. Mr Gupta while paying tributes highlighted the achievements and contributions of Pt J L Nehru for the country. V P Bhagat, Kartar Singh, Dedar Singh, Kulwant Singh and several others were present.
Meanwhile, Indian National People Welfare Society,  Bahu Fort Jammu celebrated Children Day by organizing Rangoli, painting and quiz contests. Sanjeev Nagotra was the chief guest. Prizes were, distributed among the winners. J&K Sangram Sena and KCS College of Education, Paloura Jammu also organized functions in this connection.
