Tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi on birth anniversary

JAMMU, Aug 20: Rich tributes were paid to Former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi on his 68th birth anniversary.
The main function was celebrated by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) at Congress headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk.
The function was presided over by the senior vice president of PCC and Ex-MP Dharam Pal Sharma and attended by senior leaders of PCC.
The speakers recalled the contributions of the Late Rajiv Gandhi and asked party men to follow his ideals. The speakers remembered his great contributions in bringing Panchayat Raj system in the Country, lowering the voting age from 21 years to 18 years to ensure that young voters participate in the electoral systems and determine the future of the Country.
The speakers further demanded full empowerment of Panchayats on the pattern of 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Constitution ensuring due representation to women and other classes of people at all levels in these institutions of democracy.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) also held a meeting at Srinagar to commemorate the 68th birth anniversary of Former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi at Congress party headquarters today.
The meeting was presided over by Mohd Muzaffar Parray, senior vice president, PCC and attended by several Congress Leaders including Haji Abdul Gani Khan, district president, Srinagar, Bashir Ahmad Mir, Abdul Gani Ganie, etc.
Speaking on the occasion Mohd Muzaffar Parray threw light on the social and political career of Rajiv Gandhi and lauded his role as a political leader and Prime Minister of the Country.
Block Congress Committee, Akhnoor celebrated 68th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi under the presidentship of Baldev Raj Sharma.
Sharma in his address said that Rajiv Gandhi launched Panchayati Raj in India to hand over all powers to the people and brought a revolution in the country by introducing computer.
District Congress Committee Samba celebrated the birth anniversary of Late Rajiv Gandhi, Former Prime Minister of India.
Elaborating Rajiv Gandhi’s viewpoint, Sharma said that Industrial growth Center Samba and ICT is the contribution of the Former Prime Minister.
To celebrate birth anniversary of Late Rajiv Gandhi, a meeting of District Congress Committee, Udhampur was held under the chairmanship of Gopal Khajuria, senior Congress leader, which was attended by large number of party workers.
While speaking, Ashok Bakshi and Surinder, senior Congress leaders, said that Rajiv Gandhi was a great architect, who visualized the necessity of modernizing India to compete with the rest of the world in all spheres of development and progress.
Om Parkash, Block Congress president Majalta, Ashok Gupta, municipal president, Surinder Khajuria, Vijay Padha, etc also addressed that gathering.
Congress Seva Dal held a meeting and celebrated the birth anniversary of Former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi.
Balwinder Singh Sambyal while speaking threw light on the life of Rajiv Gandhi. He said that people would always remember his contribution towards nation.
