Truck with 187 kg bukki seized, smugglers held

POONCH, Nov 26: The police recovered 187 kilogram of poppy straw on Mughal Road in Surankote area when it was being smuggled to Punjab from Kashmir in a fruit laden truck this afternoon.
Acting on some information, a police party from Surankote led by SHO Anzir Mir and SI Sukhbir Singh laid a naka near Poshana on Mughal Road  and intercepted a truck loaded with fruits.  SSP Poonch  Rajiv Pandey and DySP Surankote Asgar Malik were coordinating with operation.
During checking  of truck No. HR69A/6524 ,  which was on its way from Kashmir via Mughal  Road to Punjab, it was found to be loaded with apple boxes. On intensive search, it was found that about three dozen apple boxes were laden with poppy straw (bhukki),  weighing about 187 kg. The police seized the consignment.
Two accused person’s namely Baljinder Singh, son of  Kundan Singh resident of Thati, Pathankote, Punjab  and  Shakhter Singh, son of Chola from  Pathankote, Punjab have been arrested. In this regard case FIR NO. 294/17 U/S 8/15 of NDPS Act stand registered against the accused person’s  at P/S  Surankote.  Further investigation has been launched  to ascertain the source  and other persons involved in smuggling of drugs.
It is pertinent to mention that on November 23 Surankote police have already recovered 50 kg of poppy straw from a truck on Mughal road. This is the second big catch within a week.
