Truck driver apprehended with 2.5 quintals poppy straw

RAMBAN, Apr 11: Ramban police arrested a truck driver along with 2.5 quintals of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Ramban Police Station laid a naka at Shan Palace on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK08A-6995 coming from Srinagar towards Jammu to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 2.5 quintals of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Raj Kumar, son of Bhagwan Dass, a resident of Mela, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua.
The accused was trying to smuggle the consignment to his native area from Kashmir, but police foiled his bid by arresting him.
A case under FIR Number 40/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Ramban Inspector Naveen Angral made the arrest under supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Imtiaz Ahmed, Additional SP Ramban Mushtaq Chowdhary and SSP Ramban Mohan Lal.
