Truck driver held with 100 kg poppy straw

RAMBAN, Mar 10: Continuing its war against drugs, Ramban Police today recovered 100 kg poppy straw and arrested a drug smuggler at Chanderkot.
Reports said that on specific inputs that a contraband consignment is being transported to Punjab from Kashmir through a truck bearing registration number HR38U-4014, SHO Chanderkot, Inspector Vijay Singh Choudhary, laid a naka and stopped the truck.
During frisking, bags containing poppy straw weighing 100 kg were recovered from the truck. The driver of the truck namely Gurbachan Singh son of Arjun Singh resident of Thar Balla (Punjab) was immediately taken into custody and the vehicle was seized.
The entire operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Additional SP Rajni Sharma and SSP Ramban Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
A case FIR Number 15/2021 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in this connection at police station Chanderkot and further investigation into the matter was in progress. The poppy straw was sealed and seized in the presence of Magistrate Saif-ulla Shah.
