Truck smuggling bovines set ablaze

JAMMU, May 7: Members of a marriage party last night burnt down a truck in which bovine animals were being smuggled from Jammu to Srinagar at Nandni. However, police seized two trucks at Manda in Pacca Danga and Nagrota and rescued 30 bovine animals.
Officiating SSP Jammu Rajeshwar Singh said truck No. 0311 JK19 was intercepted by some unidentified members of a marriage party at Nandni on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway last night. They rescued all bovine animals from the truck after driver and bovine smugglers fled away and torched the vehicle.
The truck was burnt down.
Police parties led by SHO Jhajjar Kotli Inspector Pervez Sajjad reached the spot and have launched investigations. Police said efforts were on to identity the members of marriage party. A case has been registered.
Sources said despite arrests of bovine smugglers and seizure of bovine animals, the smuggling was also going on, which prompted the people to take law in their hands.
Meanwhile, Pacca Danga police station team headed by SHO Inspector Vijay Singh Choudhary seized truck No. 1697 JK02X at Manda Naka last night and rescued 17 bovine animals.
Nagrota police teams headed by SHO Inspector OP Chib under the supervision of SDPO Khaliq Choudhary seized truck No. 5402 JK03A at Bantalab, Nagrota and rescued 13 bovine animals.
A bovine smuggler Tariq Ahmad of Sunderkote Balla in Bandipora has been arrested.
