JAMMU, June 15: The Forest Protection Force (FPF) sleuths from Gamma Unit Sidhara (Jammu) seized a truck loaded with timber in Raipur-Bhalwal area and booked three persons for allegedly smuggling timber.
Acting on a specific information, a team of FPF Gamma Unit led by Assistant Director, Satish Manhas and Inspector Deepak Sambyal, under the supervision of Deputy Director, Rafi Bhat intercepted a truck No. JK20/3287 on Raipur- Ban Talab Road during mid night the other day and found logs of timber of different species being smuggled to Tanda area in Akhnoor in the vehicle.
During checking it was found that timber was being transported without any valid permission from the concerned Forest Department. It was also found that truck was carrying 160 qtls of timbers which was double than the approved load by the Transport authorities.
The truck was seized along with timber and three persons were booked for violation of Sec 6, 16, 26-D, 39 and 30-A of Forest Act and Section 378 of IPC. Those booked are identified as Mumtaz Ahmed owner of the vehicle, Gulzar Ahmed- driver and Rattan Singh, cleaner. The truck was brought to the Sidhara FPF complex.
