JAMMU, Sept 8: Police and the sleuths of District Special Branch (DSB) nabbed a trucker and his associate alongwith 14 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) from Narwal area.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team and the sleuths of District Special Branch (DSB) laid a naka near Narwal Chowk and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK02AE-1684 to stop for checking.
On seeing police team, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance.
Police arrested two persons on the spot, who have been identified as Mohammad Javed (driver), son of Mohammad Bashir Ahmed of Silla, district Reasi and Raj Kumar, son of Prem Singh of Ward Number 3, RS Pura.
The accused had brought the consignment from Srinagar to distribute it among the youth of their respective areas, but police foiled their nefarious designs to make youth drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 219/15 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them at Bahu Fort police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Bahu Fort police station Inspector Naveen Angral and accompanied by Incharge Police Post Narwal PSI Vishal Kumar made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Uday Bhaskar Billa and Incharge SSP Jammu Rajeev Pandey.
