Truckers to go on strike on Sept 12

JAMMU, Sept 10: Truckers operating in Kashmir, Ladakh and other parts of the State have decided to observe complete strike on September 12 (Monday) in protest against the increasing attacks on trucks and the drivers in Kashmir valley.
The members under the banner of All J&K Goods Carrier Association Jammu held an emergency meeting under the chairmanship of Harbans Singh here today and resolved to observe ‘Chakka Jam’ strike on Monday. They alleged that even after assurance from the Divisional Commissioners, Jammu/ Kashmir, no adequate security was provided to them and many trucks have been damaged and drivers beaten up recently. The attacks are on the rise in Valley. They said after one day strike, they may extend the strike call. They appealed to all the operators/ truckers and owners to join the strike at Transport Nagar/ Narwal at 11 am onwards on Monday. .
Meanwhile, oil tanker operators have again warned to suspend the supplies to Kashmir and Ladakh as the Government has miserably failed to provide protection to the tankers and drivers in the Valley. They alleged that about 50 more tankers have been attacked in last three days in Kashmir, forcing operators and owners to suspend fuel supplies to Kashmir.
