Srinagar, Dec 7: The Tribal Students Association (TSA) today demanded withdrawal of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Amendment Bill 2023 and the release of all detained leaders.
Addressing a press conference here, the spokesperson of the association accused the Government of bulldozing tribal identity by including all elite and well-developed classes of Jammu and Kashmir under the schedule Tribe category.
The spokesperson urged the government to withdraw the bill. “We oppose the move, and if the government passes such a draconian law in Parliament, we will intensify protests.”
He highlighted that the Pahari people are not an ethnic group but a linguistic group, and within that, there exists a mixture of castes. “If the government passes the bill in Parliament, it will create a mixture of castes, and the entire state will become a tribal state,” he said.
