NEW DELHI: Despite a huge buzz surrounding the film, the presence of Salman Khan and critical appreciation for his performance, Kabir Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ has evoked a lukewarm response at the box office with worldwide earnings of Rs 176 crore in its opening week, trade sources said.
The sources said that box Office collections of the film, which was projected to be one of the highest Bollywood grossers of all time, have failed to live up to expectations. Tubelight, based on the 1962 India China war, has grossed Rs 153.36 crore in India and Rs 25 crore in the overseas markets in its opening week.
The film now stands with a grand total of Rs 178.36 crore at the worldwide box office in its opening week. Tubelight marks the 3rd collaboration between director Kabir Khan and Salman Khan; the earlier being Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films, the film also features Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, late actor Om Puri and Matin Rey Tangu in key roles. Trade sources said that while the film earned nearly Rs 90 crore on its Eid weekend, the collections dropped in the subsequent days of the week. The film had created a strong buzz in the run-up to its release. (AGENCIES)
