ITANAGAR,Jan 19: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and his Meghalaya counterpart Dr. Mukul Sangma were jointly briefed about the benefit and potential of geo textiles based activities in the North Eastern States by leading government and industry experts at New Delhi yesterday. In a comprehensive presentation given by representatives of Union Ministry of Textiles, National Jute Board, Ernst and Young (Business Advisory Firm) and Ahmedabad Textile Industry Research Association, the benefits of the use of geo textiles in the infrastructure sector, anti erosion and flood protection, irrigation, disaster mitigation and avenues for entrepreneurship development in the sector were highlighted, official sources informed here today.
The special briefing came in the wake of a recent policy initiative by the Central Government to extend financial support to geo textile based projects to promote ecologically balanced techniques in various sectors ensuring minimum environmental impact.
Both the CMs concurred upon the suggestion to take up select pilot projects in the states with assistance from the Central Government within this financial year. An expert team would visit both the states to work out the modalities for the implementation framework within this month, sources added. (UNI)
