NEW DELHI: A tunnel has been detected along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal which might have been used for smuggling fake Indian currency notes and arms.
“We have information that a tunnel has been detected along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. But details are still awaited,” Joint secretary (Northeast) in the home ministry Satyendra Garg told reporters here.
Advisor in the home ministry Ashok Prasad said this was perhaps for the first time that such a tunnel has been detected in the country’s eastern border. Several such tunnels have been detected along the Indo-Pak border in the west.
Sources said the tunnel might have been used by smugglers for bringing in fake Indian currency notes, arms and ammunitions. (AGENCIES)
