RAMBAN, Dec 3: An inter-state drug peddler was arrested today with 50 kg ‘bhukki’ (poppy straw) in Banihal.
“On a tip-off, a special checking point was laid at Tethaar Grid Station and a truck bearing registration number PB07S- 9785 was signaled to stop,” a police official said adding that while checking, the truck was found loaded with five apple boxes filled with ‘bhukki’ weighing 50 kg.
The driver identified as Variender Singh son of Gurdawar Singh, a resident of Jalandhar Cantt and his associate identified as Gurpal Singh son of Dalip Singh, resident of Kapurthlaa Bagwal, was arrested on the spot.
“During further questioning, the driver revealed that he had bought the contraband from Sangam area of Kashmir Valley from a dhaba owner and was meant to be sold in Punjab and adjoining areas,” he added.
In this connection, a case FIR No 195/2018 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at police station Banihal and further investigations started.
The arrest and recovery was made by a police team led by SHO of police station Banihal under the direct supervision of SSP Ramban, Anita Sharma.
