JAMMU, Feb 3: Two back-to-back crucial meetings of the BJP are scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 16 to 18 to deliberate party’s strategy for Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP national executive will meet on February 16 while the National Council will hold sitting on February 17 and 18.
In the national executive, Jammu and Kashmir will be represented by BJP UT chief Ravinder Raina, general secretary (organizations) Ashok Koul and national secretary Narinder Singh, who hails from Jammu. Besides, BJP general secretary (Incharge Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh) Tarun Chugh will also attend the meeting.
This will be followed by National Council meeting which will be attended by nearly 10,000 party leaders from across the country including around 200 to 300 from Jammu and Kashmir. This meeting will be held at Bharat Mandapam, the world class convention centre in New Delhi.
The National Council meeting of the BJP was also held ahead of 2019 Parliamentary polls. It will be inaugurated by BJP national president JP Nadda and addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi besides others.
BJP’s strategy for Lok Sabha elections is expected to figure at the twin meetings. The National Council is likely to adopt resolution congratulating Narendra Modi Government on revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and consecration of Ram temple at Ayodhya, two core issues of the party since its inception.
The two-day National Council in New Delhi will involve participation from all national office bearers of various party wings. Additionally, State/UT office bearers, Core Committee members, Discipline Committee, Finance Committee, and Election Committee members, along with former State presidents, will be present.
The BJP has also extended invitations to Lok Sabha cluster in-charges, Lok Sabha coordinators, and Lok Sabha conveners. National spokespersons, State/UT chief spokespersons, State Media Coordinators, Social Media Coordinators, and IT Coordinators have also been invited. State/UT presidents and general secretaries of fronts, along with regional coordinators of various departments, will attend the two-day session.
Furthermore, district presidents, Mayors, Municipal chairpersons, and heads of Municipal Councils and Municipal Panchayats from across the country are expected to participate. District Panchayat heads, State/UT-level Board members, and Municipal heads are also likely to join, the sources said.
The national team, including leaders responsible for different programmes, regional and department heads, and organizational in-charges, will contribute to the discussions during this two-day meeting. With over 10,000 participants, the party machinery for the Lok Sabha elections will be fine-tuned.
The National Executive, National Council office bearers, district presidents across the country, district in-charges, Lok Sabha in-charges, Cluster in-charges, Lok Sabha convenors, Lok Sabha extensionists, Disciplinary Committee, Finance Committee, chief spokespersons of States, Media Cell convenors, IT Cell officials at different levels from across the country, including convenors, have also been invited to the two-day brain-storming session.
Prime focus of the BJP is to win 400 plus Lok Sabha seats and get 51 percent plus votes in the elections scheduled to be held in April-May this year.
In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP is aiming to get an additional Lok Sabha seat this time as against two that it won in 2014 and 2019 polls. While the BJP leadership is confident of retaining Jammu and Udhampur seats for third term, it is eyeing Anantnag-Poonch-Rajouri (APR) seat this time as the Central Government is expected to announce ST status for Paharis, who have large population in the constituency.
The UT of Ladakh has only one Lok Sabha seat. The BJP has won this seat also in 2014 as well as 2019 when Ladakh was part of erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir. With some major announcements for Ladakh expected to be made anytime now, the BJP will aim to make hat trick in Ladakh also, the party leaders said.
