JAMMU, Dec 28: Police today arrested 14 dacoits/thieves including two police constables, who were involved in a number of cases of looting of cash from the people and committing thefts in houses and shops under the jurisdiction of Nagrota and Jhajjar Kotli police stations.
Police identified five arrested accused as Mohammad Razzaq son of Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Doodasan Balla, Rajouri, a head constable of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, posted in IRP 17th battalion, Saif-ud-Din son of Wasim Din R/o Gandoh, a Selection Grade Constable of Armed Police, posted in JKAP 13th battalion, Mohammad Sadiq son of Bali R/o Parandli, Hiranagar, Inzar Ahmad son of Mir Alam R/o Chilla, Surinsar and Mohammad Sardar son of Shahia R/o Dinga Amb, Hiranagar.
The accused had looted Rs 3.5 lakh cash from a businessman Ishtiaq Ahmad of Udhayanpur, Doda on December 26 when he was traveling in a private vehicle on Sidhra-Surinsar road for purchasing cattle. The cash had been looted at Tootan-Di-Khui.
Rs 1 lakh worth looted amount has been recovered from the accused while police was making efforts to effect remaining recoveries.
The concerned authorities were initiating action against the police constables involved in the looting.
Police have also worked out another case in which Subash Chander Thakur of Sattellite Colony, Narwal, was robbed of Rs 1.05 lakh cast while traveling from Sidhra to Narwal. Police have arrested all three accused and identified them as Maqbool Ahmed of Dangiali, Sidhra, Munir Ahmad alias Razzaq of Beri Mohalla, Sidhra and Ali Raza of Chatta Majeen, Sidhra.
Six more thieves arrested by Jhajjar Kotli police have been identified as Imtiaz Ali of Majalata, Mohammad Iqbal of Tanda, Nagrota, Jeelani and Mohammad Nissar, both residents of Panghali, Showkat Ali and Manzoor Ahmad of Gujroo Nagrota, Billawar. A number of stolen items have been recovered from the accused.
Police parties of Jhajjar Kotli police station headed by Inspector Sajjad Pervez and SHO Nagrota Inspector OP Chib under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Khaliq Chowdhary made the arrests.
