JAMMU, June 24: Police today arrested two of its constables for demanding and accepting bribe from the smugglers of forest produce during naka checking at Manda.
A police spokesman said that during questioning, the accused arrested in a case registered with Satwari police station under FIR number 99/13 in Forest Act revealed that he along with his accomplices were carrying consignment of “Nagchatri”, a banned forest produce in their vehicle on June 21.
The banned forest produce was recovered by police constables Ashok Kumar and Javed during naka checking at Manda, falling under the jurisdiction of Pacca Danga police station, he added.
Instead of taking cognizance of the matter, the police constables demanded and accepted bribe of Rs 11,000 each from the persons carrying the illegal consignment, he said.
He added that on this disclosure by the accused, the constables have been detained and a case under FIR number 111/13 under Section 5(2) Prevention of Corruption Act, 161 RPC has been registered at Pacca Danga police station against them for further investigations.
