RAJOURI, Sept 15: The villagers from Kotli Kalaban area of Manjakote tehsil today held protest demonstration and blocked Jammu-Poonch road at Patrara in district Rajouri against the death of a youth of the area in police custody in Miran Sahib, in Jammu last evening.
The deceased has been identified as Akhlaq Ahmed (32), resident of Kotli Kalaban, in Patrara area of Manjakote, Rajouri. He was a contractor and living along with his younger brother, a High Court lawyer, at Janipur, in Jammu.
The villagers and relatives of the youth came out on the highway at around 2 pm and blocked it. They raised barricades and sat on dharna on the busy road. The movement of the vehicles was stalled for about an hour.
They alleged that youth was in police custody since noon, after he went missing on Saturday. He died in Police Post Miran Sahib and the Jammu police was trying to cook story just to save its skin. They alleged that it was clear murder and police was trying to project him as drug peddler.
Due to blockade, the movement of a large number of vehicles came to halt and long traffic jam was created on busy highway. The SDPO Manjakote and SHO then rushed to the spot and they pacified the protesting people and assured fair probe. The villagers demanded registration of FIR against the accused police officials. The SDPO told that a Magisterial inquiry has also been ordered in this regard and moreover, Jammu police will do justice in this case. The traffic was restored after an hour.
Meanwhile, two police constables Lakhanpal Singh and Manpreet Singh said to have been suspended by Jammu police in this connection.
