Two corneal transplantations done successfully in GMC Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 3: The upgraded Department of Ophthalmology, GMC Jammu conducted two corneal transplantations successfully and made it possible for two persons to regain vision under the SOTTO programe headed by Dr Elias Sharma.
Dr Ashok Sharma (Professor and Head, Ophthalmology) and his team were the operating surgeons who helped two visually disabled persons to have the gift of vision. Dr Palak Gupta (Registrar) and Dr Malvika Sharma (Registrar) assisted in the procedure while Rifat (Senior Staff Nurse) and Akarshan (MTS) accomplished the timely retrieval of the eyes of the deceased.
The donor corneas were transported, stored and then transplanted under the guidance of Dr Hans Raj Sharma (Professor) and Dr Nalini. One of the recipients was 47 years female and the other was 60-year-old male.
Dr Kritika (PG), Dr Chandanmeet (PG) and Dr Tapan (PG) also assisted in the procedure along with Operation theatre staff Kamlesh Kumari (Staff Nurse), Harpreet (Senior Staff Nurse) and Ajay (Male Staff Nurse) under the supervision of Urmila (OT Supervisor).
